How it works

MyLocalPlumbers.uk is free for you. Three steps from a problem to a plumber you chose yourself, with no sales calls.

  1. Search by job and place

Choose the job, such as a boiler repair or a leak, and type your postcode. You see the plumbers in the nearest town we cover, if one is within about 25 miles, ranked by verified customer review score, then distance from the town centre. No one pays to rank higher.

  2. Check the profile

Each profile says whether we have checked the firm's Gas Safe number against the Gas Safe Register. Firms we added from public trade directories say “Registered company, not yet verified” until they claim the listing and we check it.

  3. Contact one plumber

Call them, or, if the firm has joined, send one enquiry to the plumber you chose. It goes to that firm only. We never sell your details or pass them to anyone else.

What we promise

No paid placement in the ranked list

Order is verified reviews, then distance. The one-time listing fee changes the badge and the profile, never the position.

Checks you can see

A firm shows as Verified only once its Gas Safe number has been checked against the register. Firms we added from public trade directories say "Registered company, not yet verified" until they claim their listing and pass that check.

Verified reviews only

We confirm with the plumber that the reviewer was a customer, without showing them the review first. Plumbers can never edit or remove a review.

Your details stay yours

An enquiry goes to the one plumber you chose and to no other firm. No lead selling, no follow-up calls from strangers.

Before any gas work

Only a Gas Safe registered engineer may work on gas. Ask to see their Gas Safe ID card, check the back for the kind of work they are qualified to do, and look the number up on the Gas Safe Register yourself. Our guide how to check a plumber is Gas Safe or WaterSafe registered walks through it.

Questions about how it works

Does it cost anything to find a plumber?

No. Searching, reading profiles and contacting a plumber is free for customers. Plumbers can pay once for a fuller listing, and that never changes where they appear in the list.

How do you know a review is from a real customer?

When you leave a review, we email you to confirm it is yours. We then ask the plumber to confirm you were a customer, without showing them what you wrote. Only after both steps is the review published.

Can a plumber remove a bad review?

No. A plumber cannot edit or remove a review. If you think a review breaks our policy, tell us through the contact page. We never remove a review for being negative.

What does “Registered company, not yet verified” mean?

It means we added the firm from a public trade directory and have not yet checked its Gas Safe number against the Gas Safe Register. When a firm claims its listing, we check the number before it can show as Verified. Until then, ask to see the engineer's Gas Safe ID card before any gas work.

What happens to my details when I contact a plumber?

They go to the one plumber you chose and to no other firm. We keep a copy so we can help if something goes wrong, as our privacy notice explains. We do not sell enquiries or pass your number to other businesses.
